New Ambles & Rambles podcast series – featuring the Shalford to Chilworth walk
1 July 2026
A brand new series of the Ambles & Rambles podcast is out now, produced by Whistlestop Arts and exploring the Surrey Hills National Landscape one step at a time. It is a free, four-part series pairing gentle audio walks with local stories, designed to be listened to on the walk, while travelling, or from home.
One of the four new episodes, Shalford to Chilworth, follows a route through St Martha parish, taking in Shalford Mill and the tale of Ferguson’s Gang, the climb up St Martha’s Hill and the Pilgrims’ Way, the Tillingbourne River and Chilworth Gunpowder Mills, and a detour to Blackheath to explore St Martin’s Church and the village’s Arts & Crafts architecture.
The other episodes cover Leith Hill Place, Frensham to Bourne, and the Devil’s Punch Bowl. All four routes are reachable by public transport as part of the Surrey Hills Rail to Ramble collection.
The series is commissioned by Surrey Hills National Landscape and funded by the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs Access for All programme, in partnership with Surrey Hills Arts and Surrey Hills Society, and supported by the Southeast Communities Rail Partnership.
