North Downs Line closure between Guildford and Gatwick Airport from Saturday 1 to Sunday 16 February 2025
1 February 2025

From Sunday 1 to Sunday 16 February, buses will be replacing trains between Guildford to Gatwick Airport, to allow engineers to complete a number of critical upgrades on the North Downs Line.
Rail replacement buses will be running from Saturday 1 to Sunday 16 February between:
- Guildford and Redhill stopping at all stations
- Guildford and Gatwick Airport running direct
Southern and Thameslink trains to and from London, Reigate, Redhill and Gatwick Airport are not affected by these works and will continue to operate.
Engineers will be laying new wheel timbers – the blocks that carry tracks over bridges – on the railway bridge over the River Wey, to the south of Guildford. Teams will also be stabilising one of the cuttings that borders the railway in Gomshall to reduce the risk of landslips that lead to lengthy line closures, as well as modernising the signalling in the area, including the renewal of four level crossings (Brook, Burrows, Chilworth and Tangley).
Network Rail have set up a dedicated webpage at https://www.networkrail.co.uk/NorthDownsLine which will be regularly updated as the work progresses.
Online journey planners have been updated to include the replacements buses, and customers have also been made aware through at station posters, on board and station announcements, and traditional and social media.
